Copywriting
In 2005, the average salary for a copywriter was approximately $60,000, according to Advertising Age. That figure may or may not be higher now, given the current economic conditions. But for the most part, copywriting can be a very sound career as long as you're able to motivate yourself day in and day out. Here are some of the other advantages of a career in copywriting ... 1. Flexibility There are no set hours. There will be times when you'll be under a deadline and you'll be working through the night, and other times when you've got plenty of work within comfortable time restraints that allow you to work at your leisure. There is no traditional nine-to five. If you want to take two weeks for a trip to visit relatives, you simply don't take on any extra jobs. Your schedule is yours to determine. 2. Work Environment ![]() How you can use the copywriting secret of the most successful sales letter ever written to hit advertising homeruns in your own business. You will never again face a blank page or computer screen and wonder what to do. Once you know how this secret works you can sit down and start writing your ad immediately. There's no more fretting and worrying. No more wondering what to say first... or... next. You'll know where to start and how to finish your ads. You'll have the confidence to piece together a promotion that rakes in more money than it costs to run. There are really two work environments for the copywriter. The first environment is for those who decide to work for an advertising agency. Generally, this is a creative environment with ideas flying and plenty of energy. It can also be stressful at times, when deadlines are looming. But overall, you can choose how big the agency is that you want to work for and the kind of working environment it presents. The other work environment is for those copywriters who freelance. You get to work at home or at an office of your own creation. This can be as fun or as business-like as you choose to make it. What's important is that it reflects how you like to do your work. If you prefer a loose, slightly wacky environment, then create it. Pick up items from an antique store or a toy store that you find inspiring, that help you to create a flood of ideas. If you prefer the more business-like approach, surround yourself with an executive desk, an executive chair, white boards, etc. It's your environment! 3. Challenging Copywriting is a challenging profession. You'll be writing copy on a wide variety of topics, many of which your knowledge is very limited. So you'll be learning about new fields, new careers, new ways of doing things that you never even had an inkling about previously. For example, one week you might be writing about a new fishing lure, even if you've never fished in your life. The next week, you might be writing about an energy-saving light bulb, or an exercise video, or a generator that runs off solar energy. The possibilities are endless. And each new product will be a new and challenging experience. You won't get bored. Good money, flexibility, a work environment of your own choosing, and challenges that will keep you forever growing and learning ... what more could you ask of a career? Copywriting is an excellent choice for anyone who enjoys writing and enjoys freedom.
